For many, 2021 will live long in the memory as probably being a year to forget. But for Crew Radio, 2021 has been a year worth celebrating for lots of reasons.
New presenters joined the Crew Radio family in 2021. Holly took us on a Country Road Trip, James and Catherine gave us Crew Slips and Holiday Tips from Melbourne, Australia, Steph asked us to join her at Destination Health, Shirley encouraged us to Get Mindful and for a short while, DJ Gracie invited us to her Dance Party. Great music, health, well-being, interesting interviews and travel have always been at the heart of what we do here at Crew Radio and this will continue in 2022 with exciting new shows being added to the schedule. Watch this space for further details and stay tuned!
Sadly 2021 also saw two special Presenters leave us. Lovely Ellie and her Cheeky chat show and founding member Tricky with his wonderful ‘A Groove Thang’. Thank you to them both for all they contributed to the station. There will always be a space in the schedule for either of you. All of the Crew Radio family wish you well in your new ventures and as Tricky himself would say - ‘thank you for the music’.
So what also happened in 2021 at Crew Radio?
30th July 2021 was a very memorable day for Crew Radio as it was the station’s first birthday! One year on air and yet it only seems like yesterday that the we first hit the airwaves. So many of you joined us for our birthday celebrations which made the day even more special. December 2021 saw Crew Radio reach the milestone of 500 consecutive days (and counting!) of broadcasting - an awesome achievement!
Talking of firsts, 9th October Crew Radio staged its inaugural live event a Rock ’n’ Roll Carousel Party at Stanwell Village Hall. Thank you so much to the 100+ people who came to what was a fabulous night of music and dancing with our own Sarah Marina spinning the tunes. The event got Crew Radio in the press with an article published in the Heathrow Villager newspaper. There is no doubt from the feedback we received that the event was a great success. Future live events are planned for 2022 so you know what to do…keep an eye on our social media channels and stay tuned for further details soon!
The success of the first live event was such that Mandy Morrow (Crew Radio’s founder) decided to make a donation to Surrey based charity an Afghan charity based locally. Mandy and Andy Britten (the station’s Finance Manager) presented a cheque to Dr. Nooralhaq Nasimi, founder of the Afghanistan and Central Asian Centre at their offices in Feltham.
December saw Crew Radio support the British Airways Cabin Crew Entertainment Society’s (BACCES) pantomime ‘Cinderella’ at the Beck Theatre in Hayes. The production was amazing and a great success playing to full houses. Special mention to Sarah Marina who was Assistant Director of the show. Crew Radio was very grateful to BACCES for allowing the station to have a stand in the foyer of the theatre for every day of the pantomime. This certainly helped ‘spread the word’ about Crew Radio and a steep increase in listeners to the station followed.
So that was 2021 - a year to forget for many reasons but also a year to remember for Crew Radio.
Finally a massive THANK YOU to everyone who has listened to and supported Crew Radio this year. We couldn’t have achieved all we did in 2021 without you.
Stay tuned for 2022!
